Role: On-field DPS

Neuvillette is an on-field Hydro DPS character who primarily deals damage through his enhanced Charged Attacks, which his Skill and Burst make more accessible. He can slot into a variety of teams as an on-field damage dealer, though his A1 Passive incentivizes using teammates of different Elements.

Level and Talent Priority

When leveling Neuvillette, prioritize the following:

Normal Attack > Burst > Skill

Neuvillette scales with HP, so reaching Level 90 is relevant to his damage. His enhanced Charged Attacks make up the majority share of his damage, so leveling his Normal Attack Talent should be prioritized. His Skill and Burst contribute significantly less damage and are mainly used to generate Sourcewater Droplets, so they can be leveled afterwards.

Talent Description

Neuvillette's enhanced Charged Attacks are his main source of damage. These long-ranged attacks deal continuous, AoE, HP-scaling damage to all enemies in range after an initial wind-up. They do not consume any Stamina, and if Neuvillette's HP is above 50%, they will continuously drain his HP over their duration.

Upon starting the Charged Attack, Neuvillette can absorb up to 3 nearby Sourcewater Droplets. These Droplets are generated when he uses his Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst. When he collects Droplets, the initial 4s wind-up is reduced to 1s, and the Droplets heal off the hefty HP drain from his Charged Attacks. To ensure a steady supply of Sourcewater Droplets, it is vital that he casts his Skill and Burst every rotation.

A1 is the base DMG Multiplier for Neuvillette’s Charged Attacks that increases their damage multiplicatively for every unique Hydro reaction that is triggered, up to 3 stacks. In practice, stacks are obtained by having non-Hydro teammates of different Elements each.

Although the damage difference between different numbers of stacks is significant, it’s not necessarily worth building his teams around maximizing the number of stacks.

Constellations

Neuvillette's notable Constellations are C1, C2, and C6. These constellations enhance his abilities and can significantly improve his overall performance.

C1 is a game changer. It instantly grants 1 stack of A1, which opens up more team options (i.e. a second hydro). Additionally, it grants damage resistance during his CA which eliminates the need for shields.

C2 gives a Crit Damage bonus for his CA.

C6 increases the length of his CA for each droplet consumed and fires additional water sprays. As droplets also heal Neuvilette, this allows for long self-sustained fights even in Abyss floor 12.

Rotations

Neuvillette can perform 2-4 Charged Attacks per rotation. Here are his most common rotation variations:

3 Charged Attacks: His go-to type of rotation. The exact combo is mostly unimpactful, but it is commonly a variation of Q > Team > C E C > Team > C E.

4 Charged Attacks: Adds an extra Charged Attack to the end of the rotation. An option for teams where Neuvillette deals the vast majority of the damage.

Artifacts

When choosing artifacts for Neuvillette, consider the following:

ER Requirements: It is vital that Neuvillette has enough Energy Recharge (ER) to use his Burst every rotation, so he has enough Sourcewater Droplets to use 3 Charged Attacks. Rotations with 2 Charged Attacks allow him to use his Burst every other rotation, though they are extremely rare. If you have his signature weapon, you’ll need less ER.

Main Stats: Sands: %HP, Goblet: Hydro Damage or %HP, Circlet: Crit Damage or Crit Rate

Substats: ER (until requirement) > CRIT = HP% > Flat HP

While HP%, Hydro Damage%, and Crit Rate are often the best choice of main stats, builds with an HP% Goblet, HP% Circlet, or even both are still viable as the optimal pick leads only by a small margin. Note that suboptimal HP% main stats need correspondingly high-quality substats to be competitive; additionally, Triple HP% will perform worse regardless of substats.

Consider the following artifact sets:

4pc Marechaussee Hunter: This set provides Marechaussee's Charged Attack DMG% and a hefty Crit Rate, making it Neuvillette's best-in-slot option by a sizable margin. The stacks on the 4pc effect are obtained quickly due to the HP drain from Neuvillette's Charged Attack. It is highly recommended to farm for this set.

4pc Heart of Depth: This set provides Hydro DMG% and Charged Attack DMG%, but it is worse than Marechaussee Hunter.

2pc Mixed Sets: Combining Marechaussee Hunter with Hydro DMG% or HP% sets can provide similar performance to 4pc Heart of Depth. Choose the combination with better substats.

Weapons

Consider the following weapons for Neuvillette:

Tome of the Eternal Flow: Neuvillette's signature weapon and his best-in-slot option. It offers a hefty amount of Crit DMG, some HP%, and Charged Attack DMG%. Additionally, it provides Energy regeneration that negates the need for high ER in most scenarios.

Sacrificial Jade: This weapon, obtained from the Battle Pass, is Neuvillette's second-best option. It offers Crit Rate and HP%, but its passive restricts field time to a maximum of 10s at a time. Even at R1, Sacrificial Jade is a respectable improvement over its alternatives, and at R5, it is the only weapon that comes slightly close to Eternal Flow.

Prototype Amber: This weapon provides plenty of HP% and heals, and performs especially well if Neuvillette can take advantage of the Energy provided by its passive. It is the best option if Eternal Flow and Sacrificial Jade are unavailable. The small and infrequent healing from Prototype's passive is largely useless to Neuvillette himself, but it can be beneficial for his teammates as Neuvillette's teams often lack healers.

5-Star Options: Lost Prayer to the Sacred Winds, Jadefall Splendor, Everlasting Moonglow, and Kagura's Verity are all stat sticks that provide Neuvillette with some Crit or HP% and small buffs from their passives. They are not recommended over Prototype Amber.

Teams

Neuvillette can be a valuable asset to a wide variety of teams and playstyles. While his self-sustain lets him forgo a healer in most teams, he is susceptible to getting knocked over while casting his Charged Attacks and will often want a teammate who can provide some interruption resistance. It is recommended to do 3 or 4 Charged Attacks per rotation in almost all teams. Often he will do 2 Charged Attacks when first taking the field before swapping out, and later swap back in to do 1-2 more.

Example team:

Neuvillette — Kazuha — Offensive Flex — Defensive Flex

Hypercarry Neuvillette teams center around buffing Neuvillette's personal damage, allowing him to deal the majority of the team's DPS. Although these teams scale well with Constellations and investment into Neuvillette, they are currently limited by a lack of options to buff his damage and are forced to instead run off-field DPS units.

It is recommended to run Kazuha due to his DMG% buff and ability to hold 4pc VV.

An offensive teammate can contribute to A1, so pick a different element. Try Xianling for vape, Fischl for electrified or Rosaria for freeze.

A defensive teammate should contribute to A1 and provide either shield or healing, depends whether you have C1 or not. Without C1, go for Zhongli, Diona or Layla. With C1, run a second hydro or any healer.
